As the latest addition to our award-winning collection of jewellery, the Royal Pearl collection has been created to celebrate the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee and her 70th year on the thrown. For this particular collection we chose to place stunning pearls at the centre of each design as they have remained the Queen’s favourite jewellery addition since her coronation and have been worn by her majesty at nearly every official engagement. But where does her love for Pearls come from?
Aside from being absolutely beautiful, the tradition of Queen Elizabeth wearing pearls began in the 1930s. At that time, she was crowned the Queen of England and started a long-standing tradition of wearing pearl necklaces, earrings, and brooches to nearly all public events.
The reason why Queen Elizabeth wears pearls is two-fold. First, pearls are seen as a symbol of purity and innocence. This is likely due to the fact that they are made by oysters which live in very clean water. For a long time, pearls were also quite rare and only worn by royalty or those who could afford them.
Second, wearing pearls is seen as a sign of power and wealth. Queen Elizabeth is one of the most powerful women in the world, and her choice to wear pearls demonstrates that she is not only aware of her status but also comfortable flaunting it. Wearing pearls sends a message that you are confident and in control – two qualities that Queen Elizabeth has in spades.
While the reasons for why Queen Elizabeth wears pearls may have changed over the years, one thing remains the same – she looks absolutely regal wearing them. Whether she’s at a formal event or simply posing for a portrait, her pearls always add an air of sophistication and elegance.
It’s this elegance that we’ve woven into each of our Royal Pearl pieces. From the decadent Pearl Drop Necklace and Pearl Drop Earrings to our new Lily of the Valley Pendant and Earrings, we created som truly beautiful pieces that will ensure your look is truly regal.
