10 Questions with our Founder

10 Questions with our Founder

Join us for an insightful and empowering conversation with our founder, Lucy, in celebration of Women's Entrepreneurship Day. Here are ten questions designed to delve into her experiences, challenges, and successes as a female entrepreneur in the jewellery industry.

  1. What inspired you to enter the jewellery industry as a female entrepreneur?

From a young age, I’ve always had a huge passion for fashion and the arts, with a particular fascination for creating wearable art. Starting my own brand was driven by a desire to bring a modern twist to classic jewellery with unique designs that are both practical and eye-catching.

  1. How has being a woman in business shaped your approach to leadership and innovation?

Being a woman (and a mother of three) in business has given me a unique blend of empathy and nurturing that many others may not bring to the table. My aim is to create a supportive environment where my team feels valued and motivated to perform at their best.

  1. How did you overcome your biggest challenges in the early days?

One of my biggest challenges in the early days was time. There was so much I wanted to achieve, but limited time and cash flow held me back. I was raising three beautiful children while trying to gain brand recognition in an already crowded market. However, perseverance and passion kept me going.

  1. How do you see the jewellery industry changing in the next five years?

I believe sustainability will become increasingly important, along with a focus on individuality. Consumers want to stand out and express themselves uniquely, all while wearing something comfortable and practical. I also see personalised designs, such as zodiac-inspired pieces, gaining popularity as people seek a more spiritual connection with their jewellery.

  1. Can you share a story of a significant challenge you faced as a female founder and how you overcame it?

A significant challenge for me was bringing my children into the world while simultaneously working to grow my brand and compete with established companies that had more resources and staff. I was extremely limited on time in those early days, often working every possible hour to stay ahead and keep the brand moving forward.

  1. What unique perspectives do you believe women bring to entrepreneurship, particularly in creative industries like jewellery?

Women bring a combination of intuition, empathy, and a nurturing touch to business, which allows us to connect deeply with customers. This often translates into designs that feel more personal and are finely attuned to customers’ preferences.

  1. How has your experience as a woman influenced your company's brand and product offerings?

My experience has shaped the brand’s core values. I want women to feel fabulous and confident when they wear my jewellery, which has led me to design collections that are bold yet unique, helping women feel empowered and proud.

  1. How do you manage work-life balance while leading a successful jewellery company?

Work-life balance is an ongoing challenge. My children are growing up and need me less, but as a mother, you’re always there for them. I wouldn’t change it for the world—they’re the reason I started this business, to show them that you should always fight for your passion in life.

  1. What advice would you give to young women aspiring to become entrepreneurs in the creative sector?

Believe in your vision and follow your passion. Persistence is key! Expect the highs and lows, and don’t be afraid to seek help when you need it. Most importantly, don’t lose sight of your goal!

  1. What’s next for you and the company?

We’re excited to announce the launch of a new journey with a brand-new e-commerce website. *Qucy Jewels* will be a separate line from the established ‘Lucy Quartermaine’ jewellery brand, focusing on fashion-led pieces with a spiritual theme. Each item will retail for under £100 and carry a meaningful message, creating ‘Jewellery with a Soul’.

We hope this Q&A session provides valuable insights into the experiences and aspirations of our founder, highlighting the important role women play in entrepreneurship and innovation. Stay inspired and continue to champion the spirit of women in business!
